  • Overview

  • Federal Road Safety Corps is the Government Agency with statutory responsibilities for road safety administration in Nigeria. Founded in 1988,the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) operates in all Nigerian states as well as the Federal Capital Territory and is the lead agency in Nigeria on road safety administration and management.

  • The statutory functions include: Making the highways safe for motorists and other road users as well as checking road worthiness of vehicles, recommending works and infrastructures to eliminate or minimize accidents on the highways and educating motorists and members of the public on the importance of road discipline on the highways.

  • Requirements Of The Act

  • There is established for Nigeria a Federal Road Safety Commission (in this Act referred to as “the Commission”), which shall be a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal, and may sue and be sued in its corporate name and whose members shall exercise the functions specified in this Act.

  • General Requirements

  • Members of the public are supposed to adhere to the following rules:

    1. a. Not causing death by dangerous or reckless driving Dangerous driving on the highway
    2. b. Drivers of motor vehicles are to have licenses.
    3. c. Not driving under the influence of alcohol
    4. d. Not indulge in Offences relating to licenses and identification marks
    5. e. Not fail to report accidents on highways, etc. and
    6. f. Avoid Overloading

  • Benefits Of Compliance

  • Issuance of valid Divers license and Avoidance of Fines as listed on the FRSC official website under the offences and penalties heading as notice of offence sheet pursuant to section 10(4), 28(2) of FRSC (establishment) act, 2007 and regulation 220 of NRTR, 2012

  • Procedure

  • Any person applying to register a vehicle shall submit to a licensing authority an application for registration duly completed as in RS Form NMVA/93/l as specified in Schedule 1 of these Regulations and pay to the licensing authority the fees prescribed in Schedule 2 of these Regulations. An application to register a vehicle shall be accompanied by a certificate of payment or exemption from payment of import duty issued by or under the authority of the Board of Customs and Excise, where the vehicle is an imported vehicle.

  • Not more than two weeks form the time of application
